Online hearing check

Put on headphones, set your volume once, and tap when you hear each beep. In about three minutes you see a rough audiogram for each ear and whether to book a full test. A screen, not a diagnosis.

Before you start

  • Use headphones or earphones, not the phone speaker.
  • Find a quiet room. Turn off the fan if you can.
  • Check left and right are in the right ears.
  • Set the volume once in the next step, then don't touch it.

Nothing is recorded or sent. The tones play from your browser.

Audiogram: pitch from 250 to 8000 hertz across, loudness in decibels down. The shaded band is where everyday speech sounds sit. Pitch (Hz) → Louder ↓ (dB) -1001020304050607080901002505001k2k4k8k z vmooeed baok gch shfsth
Your result appears here: red O for your right ear, blue X for your left. Marks inside or above the yellow band mean those speech sounds come through. Marks below it mean they probably don't.

How this check works

Five pitches per ear. Each beep gets quieter after you hear it, louder after you miss it.

  • Five pitches, each earFrom 500 Hz, a low hum like vowels, to 8,000 Hz, a high hiss like s and f.
  • Read the shapeYour earphones aren't calibrated, so trust the pattern across pitches, not the exact numbers.
  • What a booth test addsCalibrated tones, a middle-ear check and a speech test, which tones alone can't give.
Why it can't replace a real test

For each pitch, the beep gets quieter after you hear it and louder after you miss it, until we find roughly the softest level you can hear. That level is plotted on an audiogram, the same chart an audiologist uses.

A clinic audiometer is calibrated so that "20 dB" means exactly the same thing on every test. Your earphones aren't. Some are much louder in the high pitches than others, and phone volume steps differ between brands. So read the shape of your result, not the exact numbers. A real test also checks your middle ear and how well you understand speech, which tones alone can't tell you.

Don't use this check if your hearing changed suddenly

Or if you have ear pain, discharge or dizziness. Sudden hearing loss needs an ENT doctor the same day.

Questions people ask us

Is an online hearing test accurate?

It is a useful screen, not a diagnosis. Your phone, earphones and volume setting all change how loud each tone really is, so the numbers are estimates. What it does well is show a pattern, for example that high pitches are harder for one ear. A test in a sound-treated booth with calibrated equipment gives the real result.

What do I need for the online hearing check?

Wired or Bluetooth headphones or earphones (not the phone speaker), a quiet room, and about three minutes. Put the left and right earpieces in the correct ears. Set the volume once at the start and leave it.

Can I take this check for my parent?

Yes. Sit with them, set the volume together, and press the buttons for them if that is easier. If the result suggests difficulty, you can book a test for them at either centre or ask for a home visit.

My result looks normal but I still struggle in conversations. What now?

Book a full test anyway. Difficulty hearing speech in noise can exist even when tones in a quiet room sound fine, and only a proper assessment with speech testing picks that up.

Is my result stored anywhere?

No. The check runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to us unless you choose to book or send the result on WhatsApp.

Want the real numbers?

A booth test takes 30 minutes, and you go home with your audiogram and a clear plan.
